A warm welcome

to the website about projects in the field of Smart City run by the city council Dresden.
On this page, we explain the most important information in easy-to-understand language.

Smart City Dresden

The city of Dresden is working towards becoming a ‘smart city’.
This means that we are using modern technology to better integrate areas such as energy, buildings, transport and water.
In this way, we aim to make life in Dresden easier and more environmentally friendly.
To this end, the public, the local government, academia and the business community are working closely together.

Our steps:

  1. Planning: We develop ideas and prepare projects.
  2. Implementation: We test the projects and assess how well they work.
  3. Consolidation: Proven projects are introduced on a permanent basis and rolled out to other areas.
  4. Further development: We constantly adapt the projects to ensure they remain useful in the long term.

Our key areas:

  • Smart governance: We improve access to municipal services and encourage the whole community to get involved.
  • Community: We bring people together and strengthen community life.
  • Health: We use modern technology to ensure healthcare provision is cost-effective and efficient.
  • Communication: We improve the flow of information within the city.
  • Energy and the environment: We use sensors and smart grids to save energy and protect the environment.
  • Mobility: We are making transport safer, faster and more environmentally friendly.

Examples of projects:

The “Cleema App” is designed to encourage residents to act in a more environmentally conscious way.

Another project is planning a residential neighbourhood that generates its own energy.

We are also developing an app for the Ostra Sports Park and working on a system to monitor the condition of our roads.

About us

Digitalisation is transforming public administration, the economy and city life.
We are seizing these opportunities to ensure the city’s sustainable development, for the benefit of all.

Our plans strengthen Dresden as a liveable and environmentally friendly city.
Dresden brings together culture, science and technology.
This is where solutions for the digital city of the future are developed.

The Smart City department within the Office for Economic Development works in partnership with academia, industry and the wider community.
Together, we are developing new technologies to support the city’s sustainable development.

For over three years, the City Administration’s ‘ Dresden ’ department has been participating in the ‘ Smart Cities’ pilot project alongside the Technical University of Dresden.
This project is supported by the German Federal Government.
New ideas for connected and sustainable cities are emerging.
Because researchers and practitioners work closely together, the projects benefit from first-class expertise.
This makes it possible to put new ideas and technologies into practice.
