Introduction
A high-performance digital infrastructure is the foundation for the further development of Dresdenas a leading centre for living, business and technology. With over 98 per cent coverage for broadband connections of 50 Mbit/s or more, a comprehensive 4G network and the roll-out of 5G since 2020, Dresden is already well positioned.
The aim
Dresden is to further strengthen its position as a technology hub whilst simultaneously enhancing the quality of life for its residents and boosting the innovative capacity of its businesses. Through the continued roll-out of 5G and the development of 6G, the city aims to play a leading role in digital connectivity.

Better connected
Dresden benefits from a modern digital infrastructure that provides access to high-speed internet connections and mobile networks. Wi-Fi in public places and a reliable mobile network ensure convenient connectivity and access throughout the city.
Smart in everyday life
Cutting-edge technologies such as 5G and LoRaWAN® are helping to ensure th smarte applications find their way into everyday life – for example, in healthcare, transport and energy management – and optimise communication within the city.
Effective communication
Smarte-communication systems help to disseminate information quickly and effectively, promote collaboration and improve access to public services, with the ultimate aim of making life easier for the public.
Safety in public spaces
Smart sensors and monitoring systems make the city safer. This enables traffic flows and weather data to be monitored in real time, and emergency alerts to be transmitted promptly.

Future technologies for
innovations
The mobile communications standard has taken digital connectivity to a whole new level. For businesses, Dresden offers an excellent foundation for innovation in areas such as Industry 4.0, connected mobility and digital manufacturing, thanks to the roll-out of 5G and research into 6G.
Research of international significance
Research is being carried out in Dresden that will change the world. Research centres such as the CeTI Cluster of Excellence at the Technical University of Dresden and Vodafone’s Tech Innovation Centre are attracting international specialists and companies.
Key technology: LoRaWAN®
LoRaWAN® technology opens up new possibilities for the digitalisation of business processes through cost-effective, low-power sensor solutions. Volkswagen and Bosch are already using these key technologies for the ‘Internet of Things’.
Flexible energy management
The DymoBat project demonstrates how Dresden can make more flexible use of energy in the future. This includes the use of Smart meters, 5G technology and artificial intelligence to improve energy management in urban buildings.
