Call for Contributions to the Smart City Summer School Dresden
As a collaborative project between the Technical University of Dresden, the City of Dresden and the Smart City Science Network, we are delighted to announce a special event:
Smart City Dresden 2026 Summer School
Date: 23–25 September 2026
Venue: Stadtforum , Waisenhausstraße 14, 01069 Dresden Dresden
We hereby invite submissions for the Smart City Summer School Dresden 2026. Building on the findings and experience gained from the ‘ Smart Cities’ (MPSC) pilot projects funded by the Federal Ministry for Housing, Urban Development and Construction (BMWSB), the summer school aims to promote nationwide networking and interdisciplinary collaboration among stakeholders at the interface of Smart-City- research and application. Designed for around 80 participants, the summer school will feature keynote presentations and workshops in which key Smart-City- topics will be discussed from an academic perspective and further developed.
We invite submissions on the following topics:
- Transfer – the transfer of solutions and the widespread implementation of Smart-City- strategies and solutions
- Resilience – contributions and the potential of Smart-City solutions for strengthening urban resilience and sustainability
- Impact – Tools and methods for assessing the impact, acceptance and
uptake of Smart-City-measures - Governance – steering, decision-making and participatory processes for the implementation of Smart-City-solutions in local authorities
The core format of the Summer School consists of 12 interactive workshop sessions, in which participants are introduced to relevant topics through short keynote presentations and then discuss them in small groups. Proposals for contributions can therefore be submitted in the following formats:
- Workshop – Interactive workshop session (approx. 90 minutes)
- Presentation – Keynote talk (approx. 15 mins) followed by a discussion
- Paper – Academic papers, practice/project reports (max. 20,000 characters)
Please submit your proposals in the form of an abstract in German, not exceeding 500 words. Please provide 4–5 keywords, the key question(s), specific challenges, results and findings. When proposing a workshop, please also briefly explain the envisaged facilitation format and specify the potential target audience. Based on the proposals received, invitations to participate will be issued by the end of May and registration for the summer school will open.
There are no participation fees for the Summer School. However, participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation costs. Block bookings for hotels near the venue will be made in good time.
