At this year’s neighbourhood festival in Friedrichstadt, which took place on Saturday 13 September 2025 from 2 pm on Wachsbleichstraße and Adlergasse, several key players from Smart City Dresden came together to showcase their work. The Office for Economic Development (State Capital Dresden), STESAD GmbH, WISSENSARCHITEKTUR – Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture (TU Dresden) and SachsenEnergie AG all played an active part in the anniversary celebrations.

With over 40 stalls, a stage programme and hands-on activities, the 30th neighbourhood festival offered a varied programme for all generations and reflected the vibrant diversity of the neighbourhood. Through information stands, hands-on activities and on-site discussions, the partners demonstrated how urban development, the future of energy and community-based research can go hand in hand. The aim was to engage in dialogue with local residents.

Several projects were presented to interested parties and onlookers:

  1. The U_CODE tool from WISSENSARCHITEKTUR ( Dresden University of Technology) enables users to be creative within a 3D model of their neighbourhood. For example, you can build buildings, plant trees or create playgrounds. A low-threshold playground that encourages play, whilst also vividly illustrating the needs and ideas of local residents. The 3D model for playful urban design was met with great enthusiasm, particularly among the children.
  2. For the first time, the Economic Development Agency and Sachsen Energie showcased the interactive totem illustrating the vision of a positive energy district ( Sector Coupling Project), which digitally visualises the project areas and makes them accessible in a playful way. It illustrates how sustainable building renovation, smartenergy supply and public participation work together to create liveable and climate-friendly neighbourhoods.
  3. Interested residents of Friedrichstadt were able to find out about the transition to green heating in their own neighbourhood, for which the state capital is receiving EU funding as part of the “NEUTRALPATH” project.
