News from the pilot project Smart City Dresden
The industry association Bitkom has presented a new digital ranking of the German federal states. This ranking complements the previously known Smart-City index at state level, which is a digital ranking for major German cities. The state index brings transparency to the digital policies of the states, highlights best practices and compares the degree of digitization of the states based on selected indicators.
Hamburg, Berlin and Bavaria lead the ranking in the top three places. Saxony is in the top 10 in the overall ranking and specifically in 8th place. The Bitkom study analyzed four main categories, including "Governance and Administration", in which Saxony achieved a commanding 3rd place nationwide alongside the "Digital Society" category.
Seven indicators were examined in the "Governance and administration" category: OZG services, digital ministry, CDO, digital cabinet, digital check, digital strategy and monitoring as well as the degree of digitization of the municipalities. Internal administrative digitalization was not considered. The population was surveyed to measure the level of digitization of the municipalities.
