Heavy rain app for Dresden
In future, users will be able to use the app to simulate heavy rainfall events and obtain information on hazard situations. The open source prototype is now available.

Smart City Index 2024
On Monday, September 16, 2024, the digital association Bitkom presented its sixth ranking of the smartest major German cities. Dresden improved by one place compared to 2023 and moved up to fifth place in the overall ranking with 81.3 points.

Become a master builder with U_Code
On the 2nd weekend in September, the MPSC team was out and about with the U_Code participation tool. At the district festivals in Johannstadt, Friedrichstadt and Prohlis, citizens had the opportunity to shape their district of the future independently and digitally.

4. MPSC Congress in Leipzig
Around 230 people from local authorities, politics, urban development and research came together from April 23 to 25 at the Kunstkraftwerk Leipzig for the 4th MPSC Congress.

Bitkom State Index 2024: Saxony in 3rd place with digital administration and society
The industry association Bitkom has presented a new digital ranking of the German federal states. This ranking supplements the previously known Smart City Index at state level. Saxony ranks third in the categories of digital administration and society.

Bitkom, the industry association for the German information and telecommunications sector, has published its ranking of Germany's smartest cities: Dresden is in 6th place this year. This makes Dresden the leading digital city in the eastern German states.

Kick-off for the start of the implementation phase
Phase 2 of the model project Smart City Dresden (MPSC) officially began on July 1, 2023. On June 27, a kick-off event in the plenary hall of Dresden City Hall marked the start of the implementation phase.

11. Congress of the IT Planning Council
Saxony-Anhalt hosted the 11th IT Planning Council Congress in Halle (Saale) on March 29 and 30, 2023. The Smart City Dresden model project was also presented alongside renowned speakers from all over Germany.

Public participation in the future railroad Smart City Dresden
In cooperation with the DVB, the “Future Trains” were implemented on January 14 and 17, 2023. This involved public participation on three streetcar lines and thus in our model districts.

The Smart Country Convention in Berlin is the leading event for the digital state and the public sector. The trade fair is also the setting for the presentation of the Smart City Index, in which Dresden was ranked 3rd in 2022.

As part of the model project Smart City Dresden , the company Cyclomedia will be recording parts of the urban area with recording vehicles from April 2 to probably May 6. The aim is to create a surface model that can be used to simulate the effects of heavy rainfall.

The Eigenbetrieb Sportstätten wants to find out more about the use of Sportpark Ostra and is currently conducting a survey as part of the pilot project Smart City Dresden . Dresden City Council adopts Smart-City strategy
On 15 June 2023, the completed Smart-City strategy and thus also the working basis for the subsequent implementation phase was legitimized by the City Council by resolution. The implementation phase can begin as planned on 1 July and ends on 31 December 2026. Over the next few years, model projects with a nationwide impact in the areas of environment, transport, energy, sport and open data will be implemented as part of the implementation phase, which will have a positive impact on the people of Dresden.

19 million euros for a "smarter" city'
19 million euros are available for the development of a Smart-City concept. Using digital tools, citizens can contribute their ideas and comments, which are then processed and evaluated largely automatically. The smartapplications and concepts developed during the project period until the end of 2026 should make a decisive contribution to strengthening Dresden as a city worth living in and should be able to be used by other cities throughout Germany.
