News from the model project Smart City Dresden
Many months of preparation went into the team of the model project Smart City (MPSC) - the regional conference entitled "Smarte Shaping the future: On the way to a sustainable and climate-friendly city and region".
The event took place on June 12 at the Institute of Wood Technology and brought together around 100 interested parties from German municipalities, universities, associations and local companies. They were all united by their commitment to digitalization, sustainability, climate protection and other Smart-City topics.
The regional conference was the 15th conference within the term of the model project Smart Cities. The funding body for the project and thus also the organizer of the conference was the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building, which holds several conferences of this kind throughout Germany every year with different thematic focuses. The state capital Dresden was the first municipality in Saxony to host the conference. The project management team at EB IT provided active support in the preparation and organization of the event and its promotion.
For example, interested parties were able to register in advance via a challenge in the Cleema app to get in the mood for the regional conference.
For 17 days before the event, a quiz question and a task were dedicated to one of the 17 SDGs (UN Sustainable Development Goals). The results of the challenge were then presented at the conference after it was opened by our Deputy for Economic Affairs, Digital Affairs, Human Resources and Security, Jan Pratzka and Jens Freudenberg from the Federal Ministry, and the MPSC was given an overview by project manager Johanna Sittel.
In the first panel discussion, representatives from the Saxon State Ministry for Regional Development, the "Digital City" department in Leipzig, the city of Radebeul as a non-funded municipality and our operations manager Prof. Dr. Michael Breidung spoke about opportunities for smartand regional networking.
Matthias Woiwode von Gilardi, Head of the Coordination and Transfer Office, explained to those present what is important for smartcities and regions.
In particular, he addressed the challenges in the areas of digitalization, demographic change and decarbonization. After a speed dating session between the participants, things got interactive in various workshops in the afternoon. The focus was on selected topics of the Dresden measures such as "Smarte energy districts", "Flood prevention" and "Participation in the Smart City ".
The main aim here was to inform non-funded municipalities about existing activities and concepts from Dresden and the region, as well as to exchange ideas and further develop existing ones.
The fishbowl discussion at the end of the conference took up the topic of sustainable solutions for smarte and climate-friendly cities once again as a conclusion and discussed, among other things, Dresdens plans within the EU mission "100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030". The empty chair in the discussion round was actively used by conference participants, who were able to ask the panel of experts direct questions.
After a specially hired DVB electric bus had taken the conference participants from the campus site to the city center in a climate-friendly way, a city tour started there, which rounded off the day thematically with the motto "KlimaWandeln - Green City Tour". After an inspiring day, the event ended with a get-together on the roof terrace of the Haus der Presse with a beautiful view of the state capital.
