Smart City Dresden: City districts are digitally mapped
Cyclomedia digitally records individual districts with cameras and laser scanners
From Tuesday, April 2, until probably Monday, May 6, 2024, the company Cyclomedia will be digitally recording the surroundings in parts of the city of Dresden with recording vehicles equipped with cameras and laser scanners. This is planned in Plauen and Cotta as well as in the villages of Altfranken, Gompitz, Mobschatz, Oberwartha and Cossebaude. This is being carried out as part of the model project Smart City Dresden (www.dresden.de/mpsc). The aim is to generate a surface model that can be used to simulate the effects of heavy rainfall. The data is needed to derive a corresponding risk analysis for citizens.
The images may contain personal data such as recognizable faces. Accordingly, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) applies. Before Cyclomedia makes the recorded images available to users, faces and vehicle license plates are made unrecognizable. The use of the image data is for internal purposes only, so that publication of the panoramic image data, e.g. on the Internet, is not intended.
The broad database that Cyclomedia makes available to the state capital Dresden can be used across all departments. This means that not only heavy rain risk analyses, but also topics such as accessibility, road and cycle path planning or the deployment planning of security and emergency services can be processed quickly and easily in future.
