The team from WISSENSARCHITEKTUR - Laboratory of Knowledge Architecture (TU Dresden) was out and about for the second time in one of Dresden's "intelligent districts" in the model project Smart City with its "district workshop" format. As in the previous year, the Bönischplatz festival in Johannstadt provided an opportunity to conduct surveys and get visitors interested in the model project.

"Intelligent neighborhoods"

The "Smart Neighborhoods" concept was established in the scientifically developed Smart- City strategy. Following the guidelines of Dresden's "Integrated Urban Development Concept" (INSEK), three districts were selected that together represent a range of geographical and demographic conditions for urban development: Johannstadt, Friedrichstadt and Prohlis.

In order to identify citizens' needs for the further development of the districts, the WISSENSARCHITEKTUR team conducts regular participation formats in the districts under the title "Smart Participation". City festivals were defined as a fixed point for the so-called neighborhood workshops. They make it possible to reach a large number of residents. The results also provide a basis for comparison thanks to the annual rotation of the festivals.

Become the master builder of your own district!

The U_CODE co-design tool made it possible to be creative in the 3D model of your neighborhood. For example, you can construct buildings, plant trees or create playgrounds. A low-threshold playground that makes you want to play, but also very vividly depicts the needs and ideas of the neighborhood residents. There were guiding questions, such as: "What is your favorite place (and why)?" Visitors to the stand were also able to access the mobile version of Scenerii on their Smartphone and take it with them. Designs and comments are saved for later evaluation.

Colleagues from the state capital informed interested parties about other aspects of the model project, whose measures are presented on a joint website .

A 3D printer, with which the children could print a souvenir of their choice, also delighted the younger guests.

Radar of Dresden's Smart City activities is being developed

There was also a first glimpse of the "Smart City Radar" that is currently being developed. The tool is intended to bundle projects, topics and players that use digital innovations to make Dresden a "Smart City ", i.e. more sustainable, social and liveable.
